Chalk pastels were used to beautifully express the iridescent colours that we can find on so many beetles for this bug created at North Herts Museum. 

Dig you Know? Lots of insects have this metallic rainbow appearance if you look closely. It's created by something called "structural colouration", which means that the surface of an insect has tiny ridges and transparent layers that reflects and amplifies colours in a magical way.
