Known limitations for The Wild Escape website

Resources: Some PDFs, Word documents and PowerPoint presentations may not meet accessibility standards. For example, they may not be structured so they’re accessible to a screen reader.

External links: Some external sites that we link to from this website might not be fully accessible, including content on the artfund.org website. Where there is a choice, we will always choose the most accessible options.

Colour contrast: The colour contrast between the following elements do not meet accessibility standards: error messages and the form background colour on the Take part page, the hover state (black or white) and background of some heading elements, the white or red text on the contact page, some button and background combinations.

Welsh language: There are some instances where the Welsh version on content is not available e.g. where text had been inserted by JavaScript, where translated copy has not been input, user-generated copy on the creature gallery and Wild World and the hero animation

Map: While the map container and markers are keyboard operable, the map makers are not labelled and may not be discernible to screen reader users.

Assessment approach

Field assessed the accessibility of The Wild Escape website by the following approaches:

  • Web browser-based Accessibility tools to check text colour contrast, ARIA elements, structural hierarchy
  • Keyboard navigation
  • Screen Reader access (VoiceOver)
  • Additional styles for users that require reduced motion or high contrast

The Wild World

The following information applies to the Wild World website, designed and developed by Preloaded (https://takepart.thewildescape.org.uk/)

Limitations and alternatives

Due to the design of the interactive elements of the website, there are limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for The Wild Escape website

The cutting tool: Cutting the artwork out uses a drag to draw interaction, which will not comply with AA standards. Alternatively, creatures can be submitted for inclusion by email at creatures@thewildescape.org.uk

The world view: Whilst the world view will be a screen reader element, the detail of what is being displayed in the world will not be accessible to the screen reader.
