The Wild Escape Carbon Literacy Programme 2023
We are pleased to announce further online Carbon Literacy course dates for organisations participating in Art Fund’s The Wild Escape project.
Through a partnership between Art Fund and MDUK and funded by the Foyle Foundation, this free programme of training will support staff and volunteers at your organisations to build understanding and awareness of the climate crisis, take positive and informed action, and help you to roll out the training in your own organisations.
This programme builds on the success of Roots & Branches, an ambitious, environmentally-driven partnership project between Manchester Museum, Museum Development England and The Carbon Literacy Project, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
By being part of this programme, you will join the community of over 600 Carbon Literate museum people in the UK, creating an environmentally aware and active sector, equipped with the tools to drive climate action.
You will also be invited to join us in October 2023 for an online event to celebrate the actions pledged and taken by learners and their organisations.
What is a Carbon Literacy course?
The online courses, delivered using the Carbon Literacy Toolkit for Museums, will give you an understanding of what climate change is, the scale of its effects, and how museums fit into the global, national and local picture to address climate change.
You become Carbon Literate by making an individual pledge, and an organisational pledge to take back to your museum, of what you can do, and is in your power to achieve, to make a significant difference to your carbon impact.
Who are the courses aimed at?
The course is for paid staff and volunteers who work across all service areas from organisations that are participating in The Wild Escape. We advise that, where possible, two people from your organisation attend the course for peer support when developing actions.
What does the course involve?
The course will be delivered online in modules. In order to become certified as Carbon Literate, you must complete the entire course and submit your individual and organisational pledges. By booking on the Carbon Literacy course, you are committing to undertake 7.5 hours of online training, split over a series of sessions.
What are the Train the Trainer Support sessions?
Following on from a Carbon Literacy course, if you would like to roll out Carbon Literacy training in your own workforce or networks, you can attend and online 2 hour Train the Trainer session. The sessions cover the delivery mechanisms for the course content and materials, as well as trainer scenarios and the opportunity for questions.
When are the courses and how do we book places?
